Ingredients
- 2 (8 oz) cans crescent roll dough OR 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
- 6-8 slices provolone cheese (or Swiss cheese)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups beef broth (for au jus)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
- If using crescent roll dough, unroll both cans of dough and lay one can flat in the bottom of the prepared baking pan, pressing the seams together to form a solid layer. If using puff pastry, unfold one sheet onto the bottom of the pan.
- Layer half of the provolone cheese slices evenly over the dough.
- Evenly distribute the thinly sliced roast beef over the cheese layer.
- Top the roast beef with the remaining provolone cheese slices.
- Place the second sheet of crescent roll dough (pressing seams together) or puff pastry over the top of the filling, gently pressing down to seal the edges with the bottom layer.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Brush this mixture generously over the top of the dough.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- While the squares are baking, heat the beef broth in a small saucepan over medium heat until warm. This will be your au jus for dipping.
- Remove the baked squares from the oven and let them cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting into 16-24 bite-sized squares. Serve immediately with warm au jus for dipping.
