Instructions

  1. Base Rice Cooking Instructions:
  2. 1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents stickiness.
  3. 2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water or broth (or coconut milk mixture for Coconut Lime Rice), olive oil/butter, and salt.
  4. 3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, give it a quick stir.
  5. 4. Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed. Resist the urge to lift the lid during this time!
  6. 5. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it stand, still covered, for 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and become fluffy.
  7. 6. Gently fluff the rice with a fork before adding your chosen flavor variations.
  8. Flavor Variation Instructions (after rice is cooked and fluffed):
  9. For Lemon Herb Rice:
  10. 1. In a small bowl, combine lemon juice, chopped parsley, dill, lemon zest, and black pepper.
  11. 2. Gently fold the herb mixture into the warm, fluffed rice until evenly distributed.
  12. For Garlic Butter Rice:
  13. 1. In a small skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  14. 2. Pour the garlic butter mixture over the fluffed rice and mix well. Garnish with fresh chives.
  15. For Tomato Basil Rice:
  16. 1. Heat olive oil in a small pan. Sauté minced garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add diced tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  17. 2. Remove from heat, stir in fresh basil, and then gently fold the mixture into the fluffed rice.
  18. For Mushroom Thyme Rice:
  19. 1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened and browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in fresh thyme leaves.
  20. 2. Fold the mushroom and thyme mixture into the fluffed rice.
  21. For Spicy Mexican Rice:
  22. 1. In a skillet, heat a little oil. Sauté diced onion and minced jalapeño (if using) until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  23. 2. Stir in chili powder and cumin, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add tomato sauce and bring to a gentle simmer.
  24. 3. Mix this vibrant sauce into the fluffed rice. Stir in fresh cilantro.
  25. For Coconut Lime Rice:
  26. 1. (Remember to cook the rice with 1 cup coconut milk and 2 cups water/broth in step 2 of Base Rice Cooking Instructions).
  27. 2. After fluffing the rice, stir in fresh lime juice and lime zest. Add a pinch of sugar if you prefer a slightly sweeter balance.
  28. For Saffron Pistachio Rice:
  29. 1. Ensure saffron threads have soaked in warm water or broth for at least 10 minutes.
  30. 2. Melt butter in a small pan. Stir the saffron (including its liquid) and melted butter into the fluffed rice.
  31. 3. Gently fold in the roughly chopped pistachios and cardamom (if using).
  32. For Ginger Scallion Rice:
  33. 1. In a small bowl, combine grated ginger, the white parts of the scallions, and sesame oil.
